Over the years, Carrie Underwood has shared glimpses of her garden on her expansive property. Embracing organic living, she has also added a greenhouse, further expanding her homegrown effortsAfter marrying former ice hockey player Mike Fisher in July 2010 in a Southern-style wedding in Georgia, the superstar and her husband chose to settle in the countryside. In 2011, the then-newlyweds purchased 400 acres in Franklin, Tennessee for $3 million. They envisioned a private retreat surrounded by nature, designing a custom estate that included horse stables, a scenic lake, and rolling hills. The following year, the couple shared a glimpse of the then-empty land during an appearance on “Oprah’s Next Chapter,” offering a preview of what would soon become their dream home. While driving across the estate, Fisher pointed out a scenic ridge, describing it as a vantage point that “sees everything.” He also noted the addition of an orchard that had been planted on the other side of the property. The couple highlighted a designated picnic area situated on an elevated spot, with Fisher describing it as a location with a “nice high spot” and a refreshing breeze, where they planned to add more trees.Their connection to the land encompassed more than scenic views and carefully planned spaces. In July 2022, Underwood shared a video on Instagram, showcasing the abundance of fruits and vegetables grown in her gardenMy garden is one of my happy places…when I’m getting my hands dirty it’s my time for thought and reflection,” she expressed, adding, “Enjoy a little taste of calm…from my #Garden to yours.”Her devotion to homegrown produce deepened over the years. Since 2018, the musician has not only maintained a garden, but also cared for chickens, and nurtured an orchard.By February 2023, Underwood took another step in advancing her efforts, commissioning California-based Epic Gardening to install a greenhouse on her property. She shared her excitement over the addition, admitting she was “obsessed” with it.Designed with a mix of L-shaped, rectangular, and round beds, along with outdoor raised beds, the space allows for a diverse range of plantings.Inside, she positioned a potting bench on the south side of the structure, surrounded by citrus trees. The greenhouse also contains designated herb beds and seeding tables filled with a variety of plants. Just beyond, a chicken coop provides a steady supply of fresh eggs from the hens she raises on the property. With their farm becoming a true haven for animals, Fisher gifted Underwood two cows for Christmas in December 2020 after attending a cattle auction, with their son, Isaiah, naming them Brownie and Oreo. The cows arrived after their five horses moved into their “forever barn,” leaving the front pasture open for new additions. Moreover, the family took up beekeeping, with Underwood hinting that donkeys might be next.Beyond animals, the land also features numerous apple and peach trees, along with smaller shrubs that yield blueberries and blackberries, making it a thriving source of fresh ingredients for her familyDuring an appearance on the YouTube channel, “Epic Gardening,” Underwood, who was raised on a cattle farm, expressed her appreciation for Tennessee’s warm climate, saying she loves it because she can “grow something from nothing.” At the time, the greenhouse was still awaiting some stonework on its exterior. As her dedication to self-sufficiency grew, the celebrity openly shared her aspirations for a more sustainable lifestyle. In September 2023, she appeared on “The Dr. Axe Show,” where she discussed her deepening commitment to gardening.”My goal is to not buy food from the store anymore,” the Grammy Award winner stated, emphasizing her commitment to homegrown produce. While she fully embraced this way of living, she admitted that her sons, Isaiah and Jacob Fisher, were still hesitant. The family primarily eats food sourced from their land, with meals featuring produce from her garden and meat from Fisher’s hunting. “We eat seasonally and it all tastes delicious because it’s food,” the mother of two explained.Underwood has also noticed a distinct difference between store-bought food and the produce grown on her land, even when compared to organic options from health food stores. She and her family remain committed to an organic lifestyle, using fish water as fertilizer to enrich their crops.Nothing goes to waste in their household. Leftovers are fed to their chickens, while anything unsuitable for them is composted and repurposed. “It’s all fun. It feels good to physically do all these things,” she expressed. As her gardening skills developed, so did her ambitions. Underwood added more beds to her greenhouse to make room for additional trees. When asked which crops she was most proud of, “The Champion” singer said, “I’ve always been great with tomatoes.” According to her, the fruit flourishes in their location, growing large and “beautiful.”Rather than sticking to traditional red tomatoes, Underwood experiments with unique varieties. In 2023 alone, she cultivated around 25 different types, with a total of 30 to 35 tomato plants.Beyond tomatoes, she has found success with squash, noting that it thrives on her property. “Squash grow incredible here [sic],” the songwriter divulged, adding that she enjoys growing beans as well. Seeing jars filled with black beans or black-eyed peas brings her a sense of accomplishment. That same year, she successfully grew more peppers than ever before and was pleased with the results. Her onions also thrived around the same time, adding to her growing list of homegrown produce.Always eager to learn more, Underwood regularly reads and listens to podcasts to discover new techniques, from planting different crops to selecting companion plants that help deter pests.A lot of it comes down to, like, having your eyes on it,” the celebrity noted, emphasizing the importance of staying attentive to her garden’s needs. Her vision for a self-sustaining home was just one part of a larger dream she and Fisher had been working toward for years. In 2016, she shared that they were in the process of designing their “forever home,” highlighting a few personal must-haves: “a wood-burning fireplace, a porch swing, and rocking chairs.”The completed estate is extensive, featuring a full basement, multiple living spaces, and a collection of garages. The master suite includes a spacious walk-in closet with floor-to-ceiling wardrobes showcasing a vast assortment of clothing, shoes, and bags. With numerous bedrooms and bathrooms, the sprawling property was designed to provide both comfort and practicality for their family of four. After years of planning, Underwood and Fisher moved into their estate in 2018, leaving behind their previous home in Brentwood, Tennessee. The decision to relocate was influenced by more than just their dream home. The property, now listed for $1.45 million, was where the award-winning singer suffered a fall that required over 40 stitches to her face.According to sources, the couple had already been considering a move, but the accident, along with security concerns, solidified their decision. Reports indicated that issues with neighbors allowing outsiders into the community further pushed them to relocate.Amid these changes, Underwood and Fisher, devoted Christians, turned their attention to growing their family. However, they encountered unexpected challenges along the way. After welcoming Isaiah in 2015, the singer experienced multiple miscarriages while trying for another child.Struggling emotionally, she broke down in prayer, asking for clarity. One day, a doctor confirmed her fourth pregnancy was healthy, leading her to say, “You heard me,” believing God had answered her. That moment of answered prayer brought renewed hope for Underwood and Fisher. After years of uncertainty, their family grew with the arrival of their second son, Jacob Fisher, in 2019.Carrie Underwood and Fisher have built a life rooted in family, faith, and self-sufficiency, turning their 400-acre property into a thriving homestead. Despite challenges, including miscarriages and a serious fall, they remain committed to their vision, raising their two sons while embracing country living.
